Ayahuasca Psychedelic Research

Ayahuasca Psychedelic Research

The Sapan Inka Retreat Center participated in a scientific research, a thesis called: “Phenomenologic research of psychedelic experiences of people who have participated in ayahuasca therapy sessions”. This is a qualitative research where it is described the internal experiences of people who decided to participate in ayahuasca therapy sessions. It is a pioneering research in Peru, since it uses the Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) as a research method, a method widely used in the psychology of the United Kingdom, but for the first time used in Peru. It is also one of the first scientific research in Peru whose theoretical framework is based on Deep Psychology and Transpersonal Psychology. The study revealed important results that allowed a classification of different types of experiences that occur during the experience of amplified states of consciousness, induced by the intake of ayahuasca medicine. The research results also provide a detailed description of how people experience various long-term positive effects, after having participated in ayahuasca therapy sessions. The need to deepen studies in this new field of research in Peru is highlighted.
